Hazardous area cable glands protect wiring in key industries

Hazardous area cable glands provide a sealed point of entry for wiring into protected circuits, serving a crucially important role in several major industry areas.

A recently published analysis from Reportlinker looks at the current global market for hazardous area cable glands, and how it is expected to develop between now and 2021.

It notes several broad distinctions to be made within the category as a whole – for example, the distinction between hazardous area cable glands and those for general industrial use where there is no specific risk of explosion.

“Compliance with standards is of utmost importance for cable glands including ingress protection, material selection, cable pull-out resistance, electromagnetic interference and a few others,” the report states.

It singles out several key industries for hazardous area cable glands, including the usual main markets – aerospace, utilities, oil and gas, mining, and manufacturing & processing.

For these and other industry areas, cable glands protect against cable strain and environmental risks, as well as ensuring circuitry is properly earthed.

Brass remains the dominant material used in cable glands, but the market is diversifying, with other metal and non-metallic materials used, and both armoured and non-armoured cables catered for.
