ICE: Hazardous area equipment keeps emergency exits accessible

This entry was posted in hazardous area equipment and tagged , on by .

Most hazardous area equipment exists to help reduce the risk of an emergency, by isolating electricity supplies and hot light bulbs from any chemical vapours or other flammable substances in the area.

But in some cases, hazardous area equipment is there for when incidents do occur, to help make sure everybody can get to safety as quickly as possible.

This is particularly important in a zone where there may be a greater risk of fire spreading, or even of explosion, and a clearly marked escape route is essential.

Hazardous area lighting includes escape signage – safely illuminated graphical signs to guide employees and visitors to the nearest emergency exit, and which will remain lit when other lights go out.

More generally, hazardous area lighting can include visual alarms, from traffic-light style status lights, to flashing strobes, depending on the environment.

Combine these with loud horns or sounders suitable for the environment – even in extreme settings like oil rigs and other marine installations – and you are fully prepared for any eventuality.

And in case of emergency, all of this hazardous area equipment can be activated using a manual alarm call point, allowing any member of your workforce to sound the alert at the first sign of trouble.
