LED lighting is helping to drive the value of the UK lighting market as a whole substantially higher, with AMA Research reporting a 13% annual increase between 2014 and 2015.
In a new market survey, Lighting Market Report – UK 2016-2020 Analysis, AMA Research note multiple channels for LED lighting, which is gaining popularity in domestic settings as well as its well established commercial channel.
For commercial and industrial users, LED lighting has benefits in hazardous areas, where it can be positioned in remote locations with little need for maintenance access, and provides illumination without high temperatures as might be expected from other types of bulb.
Ironically, it is the longevity of LED lighting and other modern, efficient counterparts that poses the greatest threat to the future value of the market.
As more bulbs are installed that require little to no maintenance and offer tens of thousands of hours of illumination without needing to be replaced, this could ultimately lead to lower demand for replacements.
But the analyst adds: “Underlying trends remain positive in the UK lighting market, and continued growth is predicted as a result of a shift to higher-value LED products and strong growth in the lighting control sector.”
