LED lighting fixtures, including ex LED lighting for hazardous areas, is among the driving forces behind growth in the global lighting market, according to a recent report.
Persistence Market Research reports growing momentum in the global market, driven partly by the automotive sector, and also by construction activity.
In terms of specific types of product though, it is LED lighting that is contributing towards this rapid growth – including, but not limited to, ex LED lighting for hazardous areas where there may be an explosion risk.
The report describes the industrial segment: “Industrial lighting includes lighting for industrial sites, explosion and weather proof, hospital, and emergency lighting.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, non-portable lighting accounts for the largest share of the market, with around two thirds of sales in 2011.
Automotive and construction activity in the largest regional market of North America is driving the market; however, closer to home in Europe, a focus on saving energy is also shaping the sector.
This is seeing LED lighting installed not just for its safety benefits, but also for its energy efficiency, and PMR notes that in terms of energy consumption, there are “significant differences” between LED lighting and other technologies.
